About us
The Tourism & Wildlife Society of India (TWSI) is a non- government
and non profit- making organisation. It was established 30 years ago.
The Founder President was
The princess (present Queen Mother), Ms. Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, who
has always taken a keen interest in wildlife conservation. Ranthambhor
Tiger Reserve was once her personal game park .
Publications
This Group has published regular Newsletters to accompany
each annual Bird Fair as well as several books :
(i) Bustards
in Decline by Paul Goriup and Harsh Vardhan, (1983)
(ii) Ranthambhore
Pug Marks by Harsh Vardhan and T.K. Bapna, (1988)
(iii) Birds in Periyar by
Andrew Robertson and Michael P.A. Jackson,(1993)
Its members have contributed to numerous journals, periodicals and
news papers on conservation related issues.
Representation on Committees devoted
to conservation
• Harsh Vardhan, Hony.
Secretary, has been Member of several Committees of the Ministry
of Environment & Forest in the Government of India, and is presently
Member of the Rajasthan State Wildlife Advisory Board; also served
as Advisor to the University of Rajasthan for setting up a separate
Department for Human Ecology.
• Samar Singh, President, has been Member of
the Prime Minister’s Task Force to inquire in to the reasons
of extinction of Tigers in Sariska and to suggest Tiger Conservation
all over the country.
