Conceptualized as the Citizen’s Initiative, the India Birding Fair was started in 1997 while Harsh Vardhan (one of the Volunteers) served as WWF-India’s Director for Rajasthan State. It is the prime event for this Conservation Group. It is now the longest living Bird Fair in world. It is an annual event drawing immense support from students, teachers and others. It is staged annually at Man Sagar lake promenade in Jaipur during February. Bird Watching and Conservation Sessions take place simultaneously to educate people, at no entry fee. Several Volunteers stand with spot-scopes and binoculars to show case birds to all. Forest department has joined hands to support. WWF -- India and other organizations also support it. Each Fair is dedicated to a conservation cause. Each Fair is marked by a publication, made available to all particiants.
